After only 10 min the frost had formed on the surface and was obscuring everything.
When defrosting the membrane it took around 25 min before the frost was melted.
After 45 min the water had vaporized and the membrane is again transparent.
Football
dome:
The dome
was based on the shape of frost and that a dome shape is to prefer when
lightning has to be lead to the ground.
Triangle
dome:
This dome
is based on the Football dome and the triangles are added as a structural
support and to further divide the surface in to segments. Also to have a more
reflective surface and better be able to place solar panels in the wanted areas
Pointy
dome:
The pointy
dome is again based on the Triangle dome. This dome has a greater surface area
and therefore can hold more solar panels and it reflects the light more like a
prism.
Pointy dome
w. hole:
The hole in
this dome was added to make an impact of the internal space of the dome. The hole will also catch sound and thereby
intensify our intension of intensify the sound of thunder. The hole will also
make a different lightning situation in the dome and divide the space.
The
transparency probe is constructed to get a visual idea about how the frost will
affect the interior space by excluding light. We wanted to test the dome with flashes of light on the outside so
see how this was observed inside the structure.
The white
plastic is to resemble a fully frost
covered dome and the translucent plastic is to resemble the dome doing the
frosting process and defrosting process
The solar
panels are implemented in the structure to be able to create the energy needed
to power the freezers in the membrane. In this way the membrane acts like a
powerhouse and can furthermore power other electrical installations such as
light in the evening . the solar cells can either be implemented in the
structure or place beside it and therefore we have investigated different
situations of solar panel placements. We also wanted to investigate what
happened if the solar panels and thereby
the membrane segments could move according to the sun and thereby also
allow ventilation in the building. We have furthermore worked mainly with
placing the panels in the path of the sun doing the hole year.
